How to create a soothing, bright feeling in your home
Traditionally, the terms "bright" and "soothing" were contradictory.
However, with advances in the bulbs and new trends in their reflection
and direction, creating a bright, soothing feel for a home is
completely possible.
"Today's consumer has a wide assortment of possibilities when using
lighting," says John Clawson, president of Galaxie Lighting. "A bright,
soothing atmosphere can be created by using a combination of decorative
and indirect lighting, choosing glass and shades available in warm and
hospitable tones, and using low-voltage, halogen, and improved
fluorescent light bulbs to enhance lighting effects."
When devising a lighting plan, recessed cans, track lighting and
sconces are often placed on a room's perimeter to satisfy the human
need to create boundaries in the space we occupy. These relatively
bright and indirect light sources can raise the overall ambience of a
room considerably.
White glass and colder metals are being replaced by amber and
antiqued glasses, and warmer tones - accomplishing a more relaxed tone
for any room.
