Great Ideas for Your Home

When grandma moves in, changes need to be made
Utah was founded based on family values and taking care of our own.
These ideas continue as an aging Baby Boomer generation grows older and
more children are called on to take care of elderly relatives.
A few basic additions to a home can make it livable for an older
loved one.
Grab bars: Used mainly in the shower, grab bars can assist older
people with getting in and out and are easy to add to an existing
shower.
Hand-held showerhead: Offers maneuverability to bathing and makes
helping grandma easier.
Tile in carpeted rooms: If the person who is staying with you is in
a wheelchair, replacing carpet with tile can help maneuverability and
independence.
Adjust plumbing fixtures: Faucets that utilize levers instead of
knobs can be easier to use by older hands.
Build temporary ramps of wood: Ramps are accessible by wheelchairs
and are easier on older joints. Creating them from wood makes them less
permanent.
