Limiting weeds can be accomplished through weed barrier, mulch
The battle against weeds can be made easier by proper planning and
execution. Weeds need the same things other plants need to grow - water
and sunlight. Limiting exposure to these things helps limit weeds.
"If you're going to use a weed barrier, make sure it's high grade,"
says Karl Kuhni, owner of Kuhni Landscaping.
Kuhni's company uses DeWitt Pro 5, an industrial strength weed
barrier that can last as long as seven years.
However, weed barriers can become a hassle in heavily planted areas
because holes have to be cut where plants go. If weed barriers aren't
ideal for your situation, consider adding three to four inches of mulch
to limit sunlight to potential weeds.
